quenching | A form of heat treatment in which a metal at high temperature is rapidly cooled in a medium (water, oil, etc.). This rapid cooling gives the metal new properties. |
quenching and high temperature tempering | A steel heat treatment method to harden the metal after it has been rapidly cooled with quenching and then tempering in order to enhance the steel's toughness. |
quenching delay | When the timing of the rapid cooling of the metal during quenching is delayed for some reason and the target properties for the work piece are not acquired. |
