Word/Expression Explanation
quenching A form of heat treatment in which a metal at high temperature is rapidly cooled in a medium (water, oil, etc.). This rapid cooling gives the metal new properties.
quenching and high temperature tempering A steel heat treatment method to harden the metal after it has been rapidly cooled with quenching and then tempering in order to enhance the steel's toughness.
quenching delay When the timing of the rapid cooling of the metal during quenching is delayed for some reason and the target properties for the work piece are not acquired.
