Yamaha Sport FJR1300 and FJR1300A Debut at Intermot Munich 2002 2003 European models feature heightened touring functions and an ABS option

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will unveil the 2003 European model Yamaha Sport “FJR1300” and its standard-equipped ABS version “FJR1300A” at the “Intermot Munich 2002” (3rd international motorcycle and scooter show) to be held in Munich, Germany for five days starting September 18.
This is the first minor-change revision in two years for the FJR1300 that debuted at the 2000 Intermot show. While inheriting the best of the original FJR1300 character, the product value of this flagship tourer model has been heightened for 2003 with features including (1) an increased front brake disc diameter (298mm → 320mm) and a new version with an anti-lock brakes system (ABS) as standard equipment, (2) an anti-theft mechanism (Immobilizer), (3) a new windshield shape (40mm higher) for better wind protection, plus painted finish for the windshield attachment hardware, (4) an added one-liter capacity storage compartment on the left side inner panel and (5) built-in flashers with white lenses. A new set of color schemes has been prepared for a new high-quality appearance.

The 2003 European model Yamaha Sport “FJR1300A”

After debuting at the September 2000 Intermot show and going on sale in Europe at the end of that year, the FJR1300 won a reputation among European users as a new standard among big tourer bikes, offering high-level running performance that made it possible to enjoy comfortable and invigorating touring on a European scale that involved “3,000 km of tandem riding over ten days.” The changes appearing on the 2003 models make them even better equipped and more mature as Yamaha’s flagship tourer.

The power unit is a 4-stroke DOHC, 4-cylinder, 4-valve 1,298cc engine with plated cylinders and a built-in two-axis balancer. A great balance of clean emissions that clear the EU-2 regulations and excellent response are achieved by the combination of a 3-way catalyzer, fuel injection and a compact version of Yamaha’s Air Induction system.
A lightweight, high-rigidity diamond type frame made of cast aluminum is adopted to achieve the lightest body weight level in the big tourer class. Other features that ensure greater comfort in long-distance touring include a remote controller-operated adjustable suspension, shaft drive, electric motor-driven adjustable windscreen, a large 25-liter fuel tank, dual headlights with large reflectors and a front-rear divided seat.
