The Japan Marine Sports Promotion Foundation (Chairman: Hideto Eguchi) is holding its 9th Yamaha Worldwide Children's Seascape Painting Contest and will be accepting entries from all the children aged up to 12 years old in all over the world during the period of July 1 to October 31 of this year.
By having children paint scenes of the nearby water that play in, the organizers of this contest wish to give children a valuable opportunity to increase their awareness of the sea and think in their own way how we should interact with the sea and consider once again the importance of protecting the water environment.
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., as a manufacturer of powerboats, sailboats, fishing boats and pools deeply involved with marine life, has organized this contest up until last year's 8th holding with the aim of building understanding about the sea. As of this year, the contest will be organized under the auspices of the Japan Marine Sports Promotion Foundation, an organization dedicated to the promotion of sound marine leisure, and entries will be solicited on even a larger scale worldwide.
Every year this contest receives many submissions from elementary school and nursery age children throughout the country and the scale and contents have continued to expand each year. Last year 7,460 paintings were submitted, some 2,000 more than the year before.
Again this year winning pictures will be chosen in the three age categories of upper elementary (age 10 to 12), lower elementary (age 6 to 9) and nursery school age (age below 6) from all over the world. The judging committee consists of the famous painter Kazuo Kudo, member of the Nitten, an art exhibition sponsored by the Juridical Corporate Association, and other judges.
The winning entries will be displayed at the Yamaha Motor booth at the Tokyo Boat Show, at other Yamaha event sites throughout the country as well as in Yamaha promotional tools and other opportunities. |
